The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is involved in planning , overseeing construction, and maintenance of roads. To assist with the development of these infrastructure development projects, the department is using cloud-based, modelling software to generate 3-D visualizations of proposed projects.
NMDOT will use AutoCAD Civil 3-D 2013 developed by Autodesk, which will incorporate GIS technology. Because the software is GIS-based, NMDOT staff will be able to generate 3-D prototypes, build construction sequencing, and run analyses of “what if” scenarios on projects that range in size.Through 3-D modeling and calculations performed in the software, the agency can fine-tune the process of measuring dirt and other construction material, preventing costly miscalculations before they happen.
